Motivated by pressing issues of the nations bridge infrastructure,
the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, working closely with industry
and state authorities, established the National Bridge Research
Organization (NaBRO) in June, 1998. NaBRO acts as a liaison
between academia, government agencies and design professionals
for bridge related issues. The establishment of NaBRO was made
possible through initial funding provided by the Nebraska Research
Initiative (NRI) program, which aims at fostering the States
science infrastructure. Additional financial support is provided
by the Mid-America Transportation Center (MATC). The inception
of NaBRO was strongly supported by the Nebraska Department of
Roads, National Steel Bridge Alliance, Owen Industries, Portland
Cement Association, American Iron and Steel Institute, American
Institute of Steel Construction, Concrete Industries, Wilson
Concrete, Paxton & Vierling, Lincoln Steel, Nebraska Association
of County Engineers, and many individuals involved in the field
of bridge engineering. |
