Bright Lights Program Tour

Fourth through eighth grade students visited the UNL-NaBRO structures Laboratory on July 29, 1999 and were given a tour of the lab by NaBRO Director, Dr. Atorod Azizinamini and NaBRO Assistant Director, Dr. Dimitri Rizos. The students were part of the 1999 Bright Lights program.

Dr. Azizi gives a tour of the UNL-NaBRO Structures laboratory to 4th and 5th grade Bright Lights students and discusses the research performed in the lab.

Dr. Azizi shows the test setup for the positive bending of a composite HPS bridge girder.

Dr. Rizos demonstrates to 6th-8th grade Bright Lights students basic structural mechanics and the importance of knowing how a material behaves.

John Hudgens, Instrument Maker for the College of Engineering and Technology at UNL, monitors the testing of a tensile steel specimen.

Dr. Rizos shows how the behavior of the steel can be shown graphically from the tensile test.

John points out the reduction in diameter of the steel specimen.

The actual steel specimen under tension.

Dr. Rizos discusses the important aspects of the research conducted on one of the full-scale concrete filled tube connection specimens.
